CalciTech Ltd. has announced that CalciTech Synthetic Minerals Europe Ltd., its wholly owned subsidiary, has signed a cooperation agreement with a group of partners to study the optimization of CalciTech's process for converting the residual from the recycled paper production process into the synthetic calcium carbonate (SCC) and sustainable metakaolin (SMK), a synthetic, value-added mineral that finds applications in high-strength cement.
The group working with CalciTech includes the Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTS), the German Paper Research Centre and Verein Deutscher Zementwerke (VDZ), the German Cement Works Association, along with two European paper and cement companies.
In announcing the arrangement, CalciTech claims that implementing its process will save paper companies a significant amount of money in waste disposal charges and taxes, recover carbon dioxide that would be lost to the environment and receive the SCC material.
CalciTech Ltd., headquartered in Switzerland, also announced that CalciTech Synthetic Minerals Europe Ltd. has relocated its operations to a new facility in Leuna, Germany.
