Cable Management to Open New Facility

Connecticut wire processing firm moves to larger location.

Cable Management LLC, a company specializing in wire chopping, has opened a new facility near its existing plant in Meriden, Conn.

Josh Trudeau, president of Cable Management, says the move was needed because the company was running out of space at its existing facility. The new building, also in Meriden, contains about 6,400 square feet of space. Cable Management expects to expand its new facility as the business grows, ultimately reaching about 22,000 square feet in area.

In addition to wire chopping, the company also is a manufacturer of wire chopping equipment. Trudeau says that originally Cable Management built its own wire chopper to meet its needs. However, interest from other companies resulted in Cable Management starting to manufacture wire choppers. Trudeau says that interest for the equipment has come from small and large recyclers as well as contractors, who have identified wire chopping as an opportunity to expand their businesses.

The multi-million dollar expansion features a wire processing line capable of handling steel-coated BX cab le and low-grade wires often exported by dealers and processors, according to Trudeau.

"Being a wire chopping equipment manufacturer really gives us an edge" says Trudeau. "We are able to tailor the system to our needs instead of buying a system that may not quite cut it.”

Cable Management says it has carved a niche by offering low-cost, smaller wire chopping systems that are expandable. "We wanted the equipment that we sell to grow with the business of our customers" says Trudeau. "We don't just want to build and sell equipment, we run it through the ringer; if it can pass our tests I can feel comfortable selling it.”

Trudeau says that its C1 wire chopper, which is built to process from 400 to 500 pounds of wire per hour, can be expanded to 1,000 pounds per hour. The company’s C2 wire chopper, scaled to process from 600 to 800 pounds per hour, can be expanded to process 1,600 pounds of wire per hour.

The new facility will enable Cable Management to keep up with the demand for wire chopping services in the Northeast, says Trudeau. He says wire chopping domestically is becoming popular again. “Dealing with a [domestic] chopper is very consistent, always based on a formula, always on time,” Trudeau comments. “We are finding that more customers are sending us their wire and some are even buying one of our wire chopping systems and setting up their own operation. Every year, more wire comes through that door, and we need to keep up with it.”
