The Board of Selectmen of Nantucket, Mass., are considering an increase in tipping fees to cover a projected increase in expenses for shipping construction and demolition debris off the island for disposal, according to a report in the Island and Mirror (Nantucket, Mass.).
The town finance director predicts a $1.9 million increase in expenses for off-island shipping in the coming fiscal year, according to the report. In addition, a wood-debris ban imposed by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) takes effect July 1, requiring the town to ship C&D off-island.
A $35 increase to the current $281 per ton tipping fee the town charges haulers to dispose of C&D debris has been proposed.
