C&D Recycling Facility Opens in Massachusetts

A recycling center for construction and demolition debris that received funding from MassDevelopment has opened in Devens, Mass., according to a report in the Telegram (Worcester, Mass.).

The Devens Recycling Center (DRC) celebrated its official opening Sept. 6, according to the report. The 90,000-square-foot facility sits on 11 acres in Devens, Mass., and is expected to process about 1,500 tons of brick, concrete, steel, wood, asphalt, carpet and gypsum per day, which adds up to about 5 million tons per year.

The company received a $12 million tax-exempt bond from MassDevelopment to help fund the operation in November 2006.

The facility is currently recycling about 38 percent of its material, but hopes to increase that number to the 80 percent to 85 percent range.
