C&D Recycler Seeks Expansion in Connecticut

United Recycling applies for permission to combine sites to expand recycling operation.

United Recycling, a division of Shelton, Conn.-based Connecticut Waste Transfer, is seeking permission to combine two operations and expand the recycling portion of its business, according to a report in the Connecticut Post (Bridgeport, Conn.).

The company has submitted an application for the plan to the state Department of Environmental Protection and the town Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing to discuss the proposal.

United Recycling wants to expand its Volume Reduction Facility, which processes materials, including construction and demolition debris, at the 9-acre site.

The plan would be permissible under the site’s industrial zoning, which would usually not require a public hearing. However, the Planning and Zoning board wants to give the public a chance to comment, according to the report.

The hearing is scheduled for late January 2009.
