Timothy Byrne, a United Kingdom-based waste management industry consultant and journalist, has published the second volume of his A Lifetime of Waste series.
Byrne, who has worked in a variety of roles in the industry for many years, says the book is available here.
Last year, Byrne also published a photo-heavy book chronicling the history of collection trucks used by U.K.-based waste and recycling firm Biffa.
In the introduction of the new A Lifetime of Waste book, Byrne writes, “The book covers the developments in the types of vehicles and equipment operated by U.K. private sector waste management companies and includes the evolution of the use of skip loading systems, roll-on-off systems, front-end loading collection, industrial rear-end loader collection, trade waste collection vehicles and tankers for the carriage of hazardous and nonhazardous wastes.”
Byrne adds, “This is volume two in a series of books charting the development of both U.K. private sector waste management companies such as Grundon’s, Haul-Waste and Hemmings as well as U.K. waste management equipment/vehicle suppliers [from] the 1960s to 2000.”
