Indiana Plastics Recycler Completes Expansion

Butler-MacDonald has completed a $2.3 million upgrade at its Indianapolis facility.

Butler-MacDonald, a plastics recycling company based in Indianapolis, has completed an 18-month, $2.3 million process upgrade at its manufacturing operations in Indianapolis. The company says it focuses on the packaging industry, working with manufacturers, plastics brokers, recyclers and prime resin producers to recover value from unusable plastic coming from pre- or post-production plastics and finished products.

The company’s upgrade expanded its manufacturing and warehouse facility by 40 percent, increased its workforce by 50 percent and added several new process lines, including two melt filtration systems.

“This growth has enabled us to help our customers better utilize their plastic scrap, achieve sustainability initiatives and offset their prime resin expenditures," says Tim Cash, Butler-MacDonald vice president.

“If we can recover more of a higher-purity polymer, our customers can better use the scrap they generate and that will translate to a significant cost savings for them. In the past, much of this scrap has been sold off for pennies to a plastics broker or sent to the landfill,” Cash adds.
