Waste Management Inc. has announced plans to sell its local operations, known as Waste Management of the Desert, to Fontana-based Burrtec Waste & Recycling Services. Burrtec is based in Palm Desert, Calif. The two companies are presently in negotiations for the sale.
Waste Management of the Desert is based in Palm Desert, Calif. It services more than 100,000 customers in the Coachella Valley, Yucca Valley and Twenty Nine Palms area.
The acquisition of the local Waste Management operations gives Burrtec control of the company's desert operations, including operating terminals in Palm Desert and Yucca Valley, as well as the Edom Hill transfer station.
In a statement dated Tuesday and released Thursday, Burrtec Chairman Ed Burr said current Waste Management division manager Frank Orlett and other key leaders will join the Burrtec team.
Burrtec currently employs about 2,000 people and serves about 1million customers in Riverside, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
It has nine hauling divisions throughout the Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley area, Pomona, the high desert, Riverside and Santa Clarita.
