Brookfield Resource Management Expands into Chicago

Scrap recycler establishes joint venture with Wilkins Rebuilders Supply.

Brookfield Resource Management, a New York City-based scrap metal recycling company, has formed a joint venture with Wilkins Rebuilders Supply Inc. The venture resulted in Brookfield opening a new facility in Chicago Heights, Ill. The new location opened May 31.

The new company, Brookfield Iron & Metal LLC, will recycle ferrous and nonferrous metals, as well as end-of-life vehicles.

“Brookfield’s comprehensive approach to recycling is designed to take advantage of opportunities such as those presented by the Midwest market,” says Tom Malone, president of Brookfield. “Most recycling companies specialize in one market segment such as scrap metal recycling, auto salvage or truck dismantling and parts resale. Brookfield’s ability to simultaneously leverage these multiple market segments allows us to realize considerable economies of scale and capitalize on an extremely cost-effective approach to delivering recycling products and services. We see tremendous opportunity for this approach in the Chicago market, and we are extremely excited about the upside potential of this joint venture.”

Equipment that will be used at the new site includes a 70-foot truck scale, a Sennebogen 830 material handler, a Komatsu PC350 with a LaBounty MSD 3000 shear and a Sierra RB6000 logger/baler.

“Wilkins Rebuilders Supply is a leader in its field, and we’ve had several opportunities to partner recently,” says Josh Wilkins, president of Wilkins Rebuilders. “However, we feel there are tremendous synergies between Wilkins and Brookfield and this partnership presented the best opportunity for us to capitalize on long-term market trends. We know the Chicago market and Brookfield has the recycling expertise – it’s the perfect partnership.”
