Bridgestone Americans Off Road Tire in Normal, Illinois, held a used tire collection for its fourth year, a report by The Pantagraph says.
The event collected any and all types of tires, from go-kart to tractor, to be sent to Liberty Tire Recycling, Montgomery, Illinois. According to the report, the recycling company then shreds the rubber tires and reuses it for an additive for highway asphalt, athletic tracks, railroad ties, welcome mats and mulch for playgrounds and flower beds.
Last year, 1,900 tires were recycled through this initiative, the report says. This year, more than 2,000 tires will be sent to Liberty Tire Recycling.
