Kentucky-based aluminum producer Braidy Industries Inc. has selected Omaha, Nebraska-based Kiewit Corp. as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for Braidy Atlas, its greenfield aluminum mill being built near Ashland, Kentucky. Germany-based SMS Group and Austria-based Ebner Industrieofenbau GmbH Construction have been selected as equipment and furnace providers, respectively.
“We are excited to have been chosen by Braidy Industries and look forward to designing and building this important project,” says Tom Shelby, executive vice president of Kiewit Corp. “We believe our strong safety and performance track record, as well as our extensive experience as an EPC contractor will help ensure the overall success of this landmark aluminum mill.”
The partnership represents what Braidy calls “a major step forward” in the construction of its Braidy Atlas mill complex, which the company says is on schedule for first production in 2020.
Braidy Industries and Kiewit reached an agreement to negotiate what Braidy is calling “a full turnkey EPC contract reflecting Kiewit’s capabilities as one of the largest construction and engineering organizations in North America.”
Braidy says its greenfield aluminum rolling mill at EastPark Industrial Center near Ashland will be capable of producing 300,000 tons of 5000-, 6000- and 7000-series aluminum sheet and plate annually for the automotive and aerospace industries.
