British Plastic Recyclers Reach New Processing Record

The British Plastics Federation's Recycling Group (BPFRG) has reported that in 2011 its member companies recycled around 517,000 metric tons of scrap plastics, breaking the 500,000-metric-ton level for the first time.

The figures for the year follow the release of the association’s annual survey of its members.

Roger Baynham, chairman of the group, says, “The BPFRG continues to see strong growth in its membership, and this survey reinforces our position at the forefront of the U.K. plastics recycling industry. However, the increased packaging recycling targets set by the government are challenging and will only be achieved by creating a credible route map that must address the U.K.’s over-reliance on export markets for its plastics waste.”

The mission of the BPFRG is to be the primary voice for the UK plastics recycling industry. It is a division of the British Plastics Federation.
