Bowater Inc. expects to post a loss for the third quarter. The company cited greater than expected newsprint production curtailments as a main reason for the loss. The company reported third quarter newsprint production curtailments will exceed previously announced levels by around 40,000 metric tons, bringing the total curtailments for the quarter to 120,000 metric tons.
The company said that due to soft demand for its finished newsprint, the company expects to continue taking downtime to remove about the same amount of newsprint from the market as it did during the third quarter.
