Bowater Incorporated, Greenville, S.C., Thursday announced the promotions of David G. Maffucci and R. Donald Newman to Executive Vice President positions.
Mr. Maffucci will continue as CFO, a position he has held since 1995 and will assume additional compliance and administrative responsibilities. His 25 years of experience at Bowater includes vice president and treasurer and various other areas of progressively responsible positions since joining the company. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mr. Newman will serve as chief operating officer and will be responsible for all of the company's operating divisions, except Newsprint. Previously he held the position of vice president of strategic planning since 2001. Prior to that, he was vice rresident of the company's Canadian Newsprint Operations. Mr. Newman has more than 30 years of experience within the industry and holds an MBA.
Bowater Incorporated is a global leader in newsprint. In addition, the company makes coated and uncoated groundwood papers, bleached kraft pulp and lumber products. The company has 12 pulp and paper mills in the United States, Canada and South Korea and 13 North American sawmills that produce softwood and hardwood lumber. Bowater also operates two facilities that convert a groundwood base sheet to coated products. Bowater's operations are supported by approximately 1.5 million acres of timberlands owned or leased in the United States and Canada and 33 million acres of timber cutting rights in Canada. Bowater is one of the world's largest consumers of recycled newspapers and magazines.
