Bowater Inc. will eliminate positions at its Coosa Pines mill near Childersburg
The mill currently employs about 1,000 people, he said.
The layoff of both salaried and hourly workers is part of a modernization plan begun before Bowater purchased the mill, Manuel said.
The mill's former owner began construction on a recycled-pulp facility at the mill that will replace 200 workers. The other 100 jobs will be eliminated to cut costs.
The Coosa Pines mill is Bowater's most expensive newsprint manufacturing operation, Manuel said.Latest from Recycling Today
