Blaze Orders Shredder for Alabama Location

Harris HS 98115 shredder ordered for Phenix City scrap yard.

Blaze Recycling & Metals, based in Norcross, Ga., has announced the purchase of a shredder for its Phenix City, Ala., facility.

Blaze announced the purchase of a 35-acre parcel of land in Phenix City in January of 2007 and has now ordered a HS 98115 model shredder system from equipment maker Harris of Peachtree City, Ga..

The Harris HS 98115 shredder system ordered by Blaze includes an infeed conveyor; an HS 98115 Shredder mill with feed system; a 6,000 hp wound motor drive; and complete downstream ferrous separation system including a ‘zero emissions’ air system, according to a Harris news release.

An online/ off-line nonferrous material separation system is also part of the plant set-up. It is the second Harris HS 98115 shredder purchased by the company, with the first one having been installed in 2004 at Blaze Recycling’s Lawrenceville, Ga., facility. That plant currently shreds more than 20,000 tons per month, according to Harris.

“We evaluated several shredder designs and manufacturers before deciding on Harris when we purchased our first shredder,” says Kevin Blase, vice president of operations for Blaze Recycling & Metals.

“The HS 98115 is designed to minimize and simplify maintenance while increasing the machine productive life,” adds stated Javier Herrera, Vice President of the Harris Shredder division of Harris Waste Management Group Inc. “Blaze Recycling has made a significant commitment to the scrap industry in the Southeastern United States and Harris is proud to be an integral part of its growth.”

Established in 1990, Blaze Recycling has steadily increased its production and business in the Southeast, and is now operating beyond the metropolitan Atlanta area. (A profile of the company can be found in the October 2006 edition of Recycling Today.)
