Birim Makina, a metal recycling equipment manufacturer based in Turkey, has added lines of electric stationary and mobile material handlers to its product portfolio.

Each stationary and mobile model features a 100 percent electric motor and automatic lubrication, and the company says each can offer users up to 80 percent in cost savings in maintenance and spare parts, as well as up to 60 percent in energy consumption costs.

The scrap handlers, which the company says are environmentally friendly and produce no exhaust emissions, incorporate hydraulic components developed by Germany-based Bosch Rexroth; electric motors from France-based Schneider and Switzerland-based ABB; filters developed by Germany-based companies Hydac and Mahle GmbH; and sensors developed by Germany-based Balluff.

The stationary handlers come in 10 SLC, 10 S HC, 12 S LC, 12S HC FF, 14 S HC, 16 S LC and 16 S HC models, which include the option of remote-control operation. Depending on the model, the machine’s reach can extend from around 32 feet to 52 feet, with a lifting capacity between 2 and 4.2 tons at maximum reach. The handlers’ driving power starts at 55 kilowatts for the 10 SLC model and increases to 130 kilowatts for the 16 S HC—the largest in the product range.

Birim Makina’s mobile material handlers come in 10 LC, 10 HC, 12 LC, 12 HC, 14 HC, 14 HC Hybrid, 15 E HC and 16 LC models, with reach extending from 32 feet to 52 feet. At maximum reach, the lifting capacity of the machines ranges from 2 tons to 7 tons, depending on the model. The machines’ driving power starts at 55 kilowatts for the 10 LC and increases up to 110 kilowatts on the 16 LC. The 14 HC Hybrid runs at 90 kilowatts when using electric power and 129 kilowatts when using diesel.

A leading equipment manufacturer in Turkey’s scrap metal processing sector, Birim Makina produces a wide range of machines in addition to material handlers, including balers, shredders, chip processing machines, scrap cleaning solutions such as screens and magnetic separators, briquetters and shears. According to the company, it has delivered more than 1,100 machines to more than 70 countries since its founding in 1988.
