BIR Will Hold Shipping Workshop During Fall Meeting

Other workshop will focus on the London Metal Exchange.

The Bureau of International Recycling will conduct a workshop on shipping recyclables to India. The decision to hold a workshop targeting this area has been the recent discovery of explosives being shipped to the country and the resultant restrictions on shipments of recyclables.

The workshop will be held Oct. 28. It will address the problems with shipping recyclables to the country. It will provide an opportunity to assess the various problems, not only from the suppliers’ perspective, but also from the customer and shipping lines.

While sponsored by BIR’s Non-Ferrous Division, it will cover all the major recyclable commodities, including ferrous, recovered fiber and plastic scrap. The event is being chaired by Robert Voss of Voss International Ltd. Panelists for the workshop will include Ashwini Singhal, Non-Ferrous Division vice President; Peter Godfrey, with APL shipping line; and Escombe and Rick Alphonso, Escombe and Lambert Ltd.

The second workshop, also scheduled for Oct. 28, is entitled Basic Principles of LME Business. It will be headed by Herwig-Wolfram Schmidt, customer relations manager at Triland Metals Ltd.

The workshop is being sponsored by the BIR Young Traders Group Committee and will be chaired by Boris Bronneberg of Norddeutsche Affinerie AG, Germany.
