BIR Releases Stainless Steel Update

The international recycling association sees slowdown in markets.

According to the recent report by the Bureau of International Recycling, the stainless steel market has been dominated by two factors: the prolonged strike at Inco’s mine, which has worked to sharply reduce the supply of nickel. Another trend having an impact on stainless and special alloys has been the noticeable pause in the previously constant increase in stainless steel production, imposed by the European steel company Arcelor, KTN and AST, which have taken advantage of summer holidays to reduce production in order to support their sales prices and reduce inventories.

A more detailed analyses of stainless steel and ferrous markets, as well as quarterly reports from a host of other recyclables, are available to BIR members. They can access the full report by going to BIR.org.
