The E-Scrap Committee of the Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) will convene online on Tuesday, June 1, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m Central European time (8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time in North America) to hold its meeting in conjunction with the BIR’s World Recycling Convention.
The BIR says waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is expanding at a rate of 3 to 5 percent each year, with extended producer responsibility (EPR) in developed nations and the role of the informal sector in developing nations being major issues.
Its June 1 panel discussion will be moderated by Helmut Kolba, chair of the BIR E-Scrap Committee and currently an executive with Germany-based Remondis Electrorecycling Gmbh. Joining Kolba will be Marc Affüpper, chief operating officer of Germany-based TSR Recycling GmbH & Co. KG, and Klaus Hieronymi of the Paris-based European Recycling Platform (ERP).
At TSR Recycling, Affüper is responsible for WEEE Europe and Shredder downstream processes. Prior to joining TSR in 2019, he was director at Sims M+R GmbH Germany and later at Sims Recycling Solutions EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). Previously, he worked in a variety of companies mainly active in the recycling of e-scrap.
Hieronymi gained international management experience in various assignments for HP in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including in a stint as the representative of the European electronics industry to the Basel Convention.
