Screen grab from the BIR Academy introductory video
The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), headquartered in Brussels, has launched the BIR Academy “More Knowledge Together” educational video series. The initiative is designed to share industry knowledge, deepen understanding of complex market and policy issues and support the next generation of recycling professionals worldwide.
BIR has released a general introduction video presenting the scope and aim of the video series. This video outlines how the BIR Academy videos are structured, who they are designed for and how they aim to complement BIR’s long-standing role as the global platform for knowledge-sharing, advocacy and business development in recycling.
In development since the BIR Academy was introduced in 2024, the educational video series reflects BIR’s commitment to continuously strengthening its services to members through high-quality, accessible and practical learning tools, the organization says. The videos bring together leading experts from across the global recycling value chain to explain key concepts, market mechanisms and regulatory developments in a clear, real-world context.
“My vision—and that of our leadership—has always been for the BIR Academy to provide enriching materials that empower our members, regardless of their location or career stage,” says BIR President Susie Burrage. “In today's fast-paced, visual world, this video series reaches our community wherever they are, making the most of how we all share and learn today. I am incredibly grateful to Murat Bayram and Caroline Craenhals for their work in developing and hosting these excellent videos, and we are excited to expand this series further in 2026.”
The first BIR Academy video dedicated to the London Metal Exchange (LME) will be published in mid-February and promises to demystify a subject that is central to global recycled metals markets, offering practical explanations and expert insights for recyclers operating in increasingly complex and volatile market conditions. LME Head of Corporate Client Development Christian Mildner, Head of Trading Operations James Macdonald and Head of China Client Development Yang Liu share their knowledge and insights through a series of interviews with Bayram.
The BIR Academy video series will cover a wide range of topics relevant to the recycling industry, including market structures, regulatory frameworks, trade mechanisms, sustainability challenges and emerging trends, the organization says. Filmed with experts in real-world settings and decision-making environments, the videos are intended to make complex topics more approachable while maintaining technical accuracy and depth.
More information on the BIR Academy and upcoming video releases will be shared in the coming weeks.
