The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Brussels, has published its Tools for Quality Management. The association says the book is the first Quality Management System reference to incorporate end-of-waste procedures that are complementary to the Council of the European Union’s Regulation No 333/2011. The full book can be downloaded from the BIR website at http://www.bir.org/publications/tools-for-qm/.
BIR says its new book has a dual purpose, providing information for companies to implement an ISO Quality Management System as well as incorporating the EU’s “end-of-waste” procedures.
BIR says recyclers not under the EU’s jurisdiction can choose whether or not to use the quality elements, depending on their own assessment of the added value to their company’s Quality Management System.
In addition to chapters explaining various topics, features of the book include a Gap Analysis form and a Quality Manual. Procedures are illustrated in what the BIR calls “easy-to-follow flow charts.” The book also incorporates information on radioactivity monitoring advice for metals recyclers.
More information on the book can be visiting the BIR website at www.bir.org.
