Ibrahim Aboura of Dubai-based Aboura Metals has been appointed chairman of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) Communications Committee. Aboura was appointed by Susie Burrage, who in May began her first term as president of the Brussels-based BIR.

Ibrahim Aboura is the managing director of Aboura Metals, a a long-standing BIR member. Aboura has more than 16 years of experience in international trading and management, and the organization says he has actively been involved with it for many years.

Previously, Aboura served on the board of the BIR Non-Ferrous Metals Division for eight years and has participated with other committees and various roles in that time throughout. “His dedication and influence in the industry led to his appointment as the BIR Ambassador for the Middle East, further highlighting his network and impact in the region,” BIR says.

In addition to his Communications Committee role, Aboura also serves on the BIR Membership Committee and as a board member of the Dubai-based Bureau of Middle East Recycling.

“I am very pleased that Ibrahim has accepted this position and I am confident that he will bring many new ideas to the table while competently coordinating the BIR Communications Committee’s works," Burrage says.

“I am very honored to be given this important task," Aboura adds. "Communicating with its members and on behalf of the industry to external stakeholders is the very purpose of an organization such as BIR. I very much look forward to working under Susie’s guidance with the highly professional team of BIR. Together, we can make great things happen.”

Burrage and Aboura say they are thankful for the work of outgoing Communications Committee chairman Mark Sellier for his sterling job over the last five years. Sellier of Hong Kong-based Global Metals Network Ltd. decided to step down because of an increasing workload within his company, BIR says.
