BIR lines up speakers for its May Hong Kong event

The Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) is hosting the 2017 version of its World Recycling Convention & Exhibition in Hong Kong 21-24 May. BIR says the event is being designed to bring together more than 900 recycling industry professionals from all around the world, including traders, processors, consumers, brokers and equipment suppliers.

The bureau says the convention programme “will cover increasingly relevant topics on ferrous and nonferrous metals, paper, textiles, stainless steel, plastics, tyres and e-scrap.” The event has been designed to offer trading and business opportunities in an exhibition hall, a networking lounge and a “trading floor.”

A Welcome Reception on the evening of 22 May will be open to all registered delegates and guests. It takes place at the sky100 observation deck, on the 100^th floor of the tallest building in Hong Kong, the ICC Tower.

BIR says speaker rosters for its sessions are beginning to take shape. Plenary sessions are open to all attendees and they will be simultaneously translated into English, German, French and Chinese.

In the Non-Ferrous Metals Division meeting Monday, 22 May, speakers include John Browning of Hong Kong-based BANDS Financial; Masao Montani of Japan-based Daiki Aluminium Industry Co. Ltd.; and Hong Yang, of China-based Minmetals’ operations in Germany.

Later Monday, the Stainless Steel & Special Alloys Committee meeting will feature Markus Moll of Austria-based SMR (Steel & Metals Market Research) and Bloomberg View columnist Adam Minter. Also speaking on Monday, at the International Trade Council meeting, is Adina Renee Adler, senior director of government relations and international affairs at the Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI).

At the Ferrous Division meeting Tuesday, 23 May, speakers include Dr. Chen Ye from the Shanghai Futures Exchange. Later that same day at the BIR’s Shredder Committee meeting, Didier Haegelsteen of Italy-based SGM Gantry S.p.A. will offer a presentation.
