Advance registrations to the Spring Convention of the Bureau of International Recycling have been received from delegates from 44 nations, marking a new high for the number of nations represented.
The Brussels-based organization is holding its 2001 Spring Convention in Madrid May 20-23. In parallel to the first day of the convention, the BIR is co-hosting an international Symposium on Global Steel and Ferrous Recycling along with the Washington-based Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc.
The participation figure represents nearly 90% of the total number of BIR member countries. “I am extremely pleased that our Spring Convention has succeeded in gathering so many countries,” says BIR Director General Francis Veys. “This clearly confirms BIR’s mission to act as world recycling federation and that our conventions are the international business forum which should be attended by any business person interested and involved in the international recycling industries.”
More than 700 delegates are expected to gather in Madrid for sessions focusing on metallic and non-metallic commodities as well as recycling operations and global trade.
