The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Brussels, has elected Björn Grufman of the Swedish company Metallvärden AB its new president. The election was held during the BIR’s General Assembly in Singapore, May 24. Grufman was approved by the BIR’s General Assembly for a two-year mandate, which can be extended one time. He replaces Dominique Maguin, who served as BIR’s president for the previous four years.
“BIR has profiled itself as the sole truly international recycling federation," says Grufman. “I am honored to be serving its over 800 member companies and national recycling federations in the coming years.”
Grufman is managing director and main owner of M.V. Metallvärden AB, a Sweden-based scrap trading and processing company. Grufman joined BIR in 1989 and has held several senior positions with BIR, including treasurer and vice president of the Non Ferrous Metals Division.
Additionally, Grufman was president of the European Metal Trade and Recycling Federation (Eurometrec), chairman of the Nordic Recycling Federation and is currently board member of the Swedish recycling industries association known as Atervinningsindustrierna.
