Factors that Cause Movements in the Recovered Paper Markets will be Focus of BIR Session

Panelist will discuss the issues during the Paper Division plenary session on Oct. 25.


The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) Paper Division will hold its plenary session at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 25 during the BIR World Recycling Convention in Brussels. Factors that cause movements in the recovered paper markets will be the theme of the session.

Divisional president Ranjit S. Baxi of United Kingdom-based J&H Sales International Ltd. has invited experts from different organizations who will tackle the issues from their respective angle. They include
  • Bill Moore, president of Moore & Associates, an international consulting firm engaged in providing a range of market research and strategic services to the global paper recycling industry. Prior to his many years as a consultant, Moore held a series of positions in the solid waste, paper and recycling industries. These posts included founder and vice president of Paper Recycling International and the first director of recycling for Waste Management.
  • Ilpo Ervasti, an independent consultant with extensive experience in the paper industry. He worked 20 years in Pöyry Forest Industry Consulting, during the last years as a leading advisor. Ervasti has 30 years’ experience in market and business opportunity studies as well as raw material availability studies in the forest industry and related fields worldwide. Within the organization of Pöyry Forest Industry Consulting, Ervasti was in charge of recovered paper strategies including supply and demand issues as well as forecasting and sourcing. He currently is an independent advisor and a doctoral candidate in Aalto University researching recovered paper related issues.
  • Peter Hall, managing director of APL Liner Shipping in the U.K. and Ireland, he was appointed to this position in 2002 and subsequently also assumed responsibility for the APL Logistics business from 2005 until 2008. Having joined APL in its European Regional head office in 2000 as director of global sales, he was responsible for the management of global clients principally located in the U.K. and German markets, during which time his notable achievements were securing “first time” business from both BMW and Daimler Chrysler.
During the plenary meeting, the BIR Ferrous Division also will grant the Papyrus Award, in recognition of an organization’s/corporation’s contribution to the paper recycling industry. The recipient of this award will be announced at a later date.
