US-based metals analyst among speakers at May BIR event

Jason Schenker of Texas-based Prestige Economics will offer his views on the ferrous scrap market.

Jason Schenker, author and the founder and president of Austin, Texas-based Prestige Economics, will deliver a presentation titled “Ferrous Markets: Torn Between Growth and Risks” at the 2018 Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) World Recycling Convention, May 27-30 in Barcelona.

Schenker, who has spoken at prior Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) conventions, is the author of the books “Commodity Prices 101” and “Recession-Proof.” He will make his presentation at the BIR Ferrous Division meeting the morning of Tuesday, May 29.

Schenker also has agreed to participate in a panel discussion during the BIR Stainless Steel & Special Alloys Committee meeting the afternoon of Monday, May 28, together with guest speaker Olivier Masson of London-based Roskill Information Services.

Global trade politics will be among the topics discussed at the BIR’s Non-Ferrous Metals Division meeting the morning of Monday, May 28. In addition to two guest speakers, the meeting will include a panel discussion titled “Recycling and Politics, A New Era?,” moderated by Alejandro Jaramillo of Mexico-based Glorem SC.

The division’s guest speakers are Josep Berdejo, director of international business at Spain-based secondary copper producer La Farga. The other speaker, also based in Spain, is Ion Olaeta, director general of the recycling division of metals company the Otua Group.

The panel discussion to follow will focus on increasing geopolitical tensions and how they affect the recycling business.  In addition to moderator Jaramillo, panelists will include BIR Non-Ferrous Division President David Chiao of Atlanta-based Uni-All Group Ltd. and other division board members from Denmark, India, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
