BIR Announces Posthumous Award

Nucor's Iverson to be recognized at international recycling conference.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the international recycling and steel industry, BIR will be making a posthumous award to Ken Iverson, former Chairman and CEO of Nucor Corp. The presentation ceremony for this, the BIR Gold Medal - which is the federation’s highest award - will be held at BIR’s General Assembly May 30th.

The BIR Gold Medal has only been awarded 5 times in the over 50-years of the BIR.

Under Iverson, Nucor grew from a relatively small company into the ranks of the world’s top steel makers. Nucor today is the world’s largest mini-mill operator, the U.S.’s largest recycler of any material and the country’s largest and most profitable steel producer with an output of 12.3 million tons last year.
