The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Brussels, has appointed Federico Zanotti to the organization’s advocacy team.
Zanotti has four years of experience in international trade, energy markets and diplomacy, with a focus on the nonferrous metals and critical raw materials sectors, according to a BIR news release.
Previously, he worked for a Chinese critical raw material supplier for the aluminum industry, where he was responsible for developing the company’s export business in Europe and the Middle East. Zanotti also worked as an energy journalist in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and covered topics from renewables and decarbonization technologies to trade, investment in energy and environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) policies.
As an advisor at the Permanent Mission of San Marina to international organizations in Vienna, BIR says Zanotti gained experience in regulatory and international affairs at the U.N. and Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) levels.
“Federico's knowledge of the commodities sector, coupled with his impressive academic and professional background, makes him an ideal addition to our growing international advocacy team and BIR's multilingual secretariat,” BIR Director General Arnaud Brunet says.
Zanotti pursued his education at universities in Italy, Austria and China and can speak English and Italian, with knowledge of French, German and Mandarin.
BIR members will be able to meet Zanotti in person at the upcoming World Recycling Convention in Copenhagen, Denmark.
