BIR Adds Aluminum Symposium

Event, held in conjunction with Oslo convention, will examine industry trends.

The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Brussels, has scheduled a one-day symposium examining the aluminium industry and its recycling sector, to be held in coordination with the group’s Spring Convention.

“Aluminum Sustainability: The Gate to the Future,” will take place Monday, May 26 at the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel in Oslo, Norway.

The symposium will be structured in four main sessions, each of which will be dedicated to a different aspect of aluminium production and/or recycling. More than 20 speakers will give their opinions and analysis of the different aspects of aluminum.

Representatives from several companies have confirmed their active participation, according to the BIR, including Alcan Aluminum Corp. of Montreal, scrap metal recyclers Alpert & Alpert Inc. of Los Angeles and several other primary, secondary and supplier companies from throughout the world.

The event will officially open on the evening of Sunday, May 25, with a welcome cocktail reception. The Monday program starts with a complimentary welcome breakfast hosted by the President of the BIR Non Ferrous Division, Marc Natan of Malco S.A., France.

A BIR news release notes that aluminium has gained growing importance in the economy, with current applications in industry, construction, consumer goods and technology.

The symposium programming will address primary and secondary production as well as international issues and challenges, while also highlighting the importance of sustainability as a guarantee for future raw material supply.
