Biffa Building Large MRF in West Midlands

Facility is expected to be complete by this coming September.

The U.K.-based waste management firm announced plans to build a recycling plant at the new Midpoint Distribution Centre in the West Midlands. The plant will initially process 200,000 metric tons of waste materials per year and achieve recycling rates of more than 96 percent.

Work on installing the treatment and sorting infrastructure in the 220,000 square foot building will commence next month and the plant will be fully operational by this coming September. Construction will create up to 30 jobs and, more than £3 million will go into the local economy, and when fully operational up to 40 people will be employed.

Mark Pearce, corporate director for Regeneration at Advantage West Midlands, described Biffa's new facility as proof that the West Midlands is being recognized as leader in the development of new waste infrastructure.
