England-based waste and recycling firm Biffa has completed the acquisition of L&S Waste Management, a construction and demolition (C&D) materials hauling and recycling firm based in Hampshire, England.
L&S Waste Management was established in 1997 and serves several urban areas in southern England. The company's core waste management business includes two C&D material recycling facilities in Southampton and Portsmouth, with a combined annual capacity of 225,000 metric tons, a transfer station in Fareham, and a fleet of 91 collection vehicles.
“We’re delighted to welcome the L&S team and customers to the Biffa Group,” says Marc Angell, managing director of Biffa’s C&D materials business unit. “Biffa is the largest collector of waste and recycling in the U.K. and the addition of L&S’ capability in the C&D sector will further strengthen our services in this important market."
According to Biffa, the deal reinforces its strategy to grow low-carbon recycling solutions for its local authority and industrial customers across the U.K., as well as increasing the amount of recycled products available to the construction industry.
Biffa already operates C&D processing facilities in the U.K. cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham and Cardiff, and describes itself as the U.K.’s leading supplier of containers to pick up such material.
Calling L&S “a well-established brand along the south coast,” Biffa says L&S will continue to operate as L&S Waste Management.
“The sale of the business to Biffa heralds an exciting new chapter in the proud history of L&S,” says Mick Balch, managing director of L&S Waste Management. “New and existing customers will continue to be serviced by the L&S brand and by the same team who are committed to providing the most sustainable service possible while also being able to draw on Biffa’s extensive pool of resources and expertise.”
