The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced that Browning-Ferris Industries Waste Systems of North America has paid a $250,000 civil penalty for waste violations found at its TRC transfer station in Philadelphia.
Violations outlined in this penalty action were cited during inspections of BFI’s facility between July 2002 and February 2005.
DEP inspectors found that BFI stored putrescible waste for longer than the 24-hour regulatory allowance; stored municipal waste outside of its approved storage area; failed to comply with its approved radiation-monitoring plan; and failed to maintain facility roadways and tipping floor areas.
