For the third consecutive year, Best Buy will hold its annual electronics recycling event at the Best Buy Corporate Campus in Richfield, Minn., Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25. Twin Cities residents can drop off old electronics each day between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to I-494 at 7601 Penn Ave. South.
Accepted items include (but are not limited to): TVs, VCRs, computers, monitors, phones (including cellular), scanners, printers, fax machines and stereo equipment.
A $10 fee applies to TVs and computer monitors measuring up to 27 inches wide, and a $20 fee applies to console TVs and TVs larger than 27 inches. All other items are accepted free of charge. Items not accepted include microwaves, smoke detectors, air conditioners and other major household appliances.
"Last year, more than 2,600 cars caravanned into the parking lot of our corporate campus over two days and we helped recycle more than 270,000 pounds of electronics," Paula Prahl, vice president of public affairs for Best Buy, says in a press release. "We believe, that as an electronics retailer, we should see that old products are effectively reused in the development of new products -- keeping the product life cycle in motion benefits everyone."
Best Buy's event is sponsored by Hewlett Packard, the Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance and Waste Management.
