William Wolok, the founder, ex-chairman and former CEO of rolloff trailer manufacturer Benlee, Romulus, Mich., died Feb. 5, 2014. He was 84.
“Bill was a great inspiration to many of us as we went through the enormous swings in the business in recent years,” says Greg Brown, Benlee current president and CEO. “His passing is a great loss to our team and the industry.”
Wolok started his career in the late 1960s purchasing and hauling scrap metal. In 1974 Harry Kletter, the former CEO of Louisville, Ky., scrap firm Industrial Services of America, sent drawings of roll-off trailers to Wolok and suggested that he start manufacturing similar trailers. These trailers made up the initial product line of Benlee.
Wolok sold Benlee to Brown in 2004. He is survived by his wife Edith, three daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
