BellSouth's Nashville The Real Yellow Pages Delivery, Recycling Starts

BellSouth's community partnerships to recycle outdated directories have diverted more than 117,000 tons of phone books from landfills.

The annual telephone directory recycling campaign in Metro Nashville, which began the week of June 27th, coincides with the delivery of BellSouth's new Yellow Pages directory, "The Real Yellow Pages®." This year's directory features the Nashville Predators and the Gaylord Entertainment Center on the cover.

Directory delivery is scheduled to be complete by August 9th. The recycling campaign will continue as long as necessary to collect the old books.

Kenny Blackburn, vice president of external affairs for BellSouth, says the company is pleased to be working with the Metro Public Works Division of Waste Management to encourage recycling of the old directories. “We encourage everyone to place

their old yellow pages directory in the mixed paper bins at one of the

recycling drop-off centers located throughout Davidson County," Blackburn

says.

A list of recycling drop-off center locations will be printed on the plastic bag in which the books will be delivered and also is available at

Mayor Bill Purcell applauds BellSouth's environmental responsibility. "We

appreciate BellSouth's effort to recycle phone books and significantly reduce our landfill costs over the years," Mayor Purcell says. "By producing 100 percent recyclable books, BellSouth makes it easier for the reprocessing of these paper products. By encouraging everyone to recycle, we can continue to hold down Metro's costs while doing our part to provide a cleaner and healthier environment in the city."

Since 1989, BellSouth's community partnerships to recycle outdated directories have diverted more than 117,000 tons of phone books from landfills.
