Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service sign contract with Mick George

Mick George will provide waste management services to Bedfordshire’s 14 operating locations.

Mick George Ltd., based in Cambridgeshire in the United Kingdom, has signed a contract with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to manage discarded materials at each of the emergency service’s 14 operating locations, including its headquarters, in the county of Bedfordshire.

More than 550 firefighters, officers, control operatives and support staff function 24/7 from each of the respective fire, crewing or retained stations. The 12-month agreement consists of 35 containers located across the various premises with scheduled weekly or twice weekly collections of waste and recyclables.

Mick George says it was awarded the contract, in part, because of its ability to provide a sustainable and fully auditable zero to landfill waste management solution.

“We are looking forward to working with Mick George Ltd.,” Kelly Hinkley, facilities supervisor at Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service says. “The switch not only offered cost and efficiency savings to the Fire and Rescue Service but also means we are working with our collaborative partners, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cambridgeshire Constabulary. Mick George Ltd. also assists us in fulfilling our commitment to improving our environmental impact.’’

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for all areas served by Central Bedfordshire Council, Bedford Borough Council and Luton Borough Council, covering approximately 305,000 acres, helping to protect a population of more than 620,000.

Last year, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service also switched providers to Mick George, and more recently Cambridgeshire Constabulary was also added to the company’s list of clients.

“Much like ourselves, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has a duty to provide the community with a service to the highest of standards,” Abigail Johnson, head of waste at Mick George, says. “We are immensely proud to be connected with yet another reputable local authority.

“It shows just how much our commercial waste provision has developed in a short space of time, viewed upon as a dependable and quality service that those within our operating areas are keen to utilize,” says Johnson.
