The province of British Columbia is holding public meetings through the middle of September to discuss its draft of the province’s Electronic Stewardship plan.
The stewardship plan is a response to an amendment from earlier this year to the province’s Recycling Regulation of Oct. 4, 2004, which added a schedule for electronics waste management. .
The plan was developed to meet the following criteria: establish a convenient collection system; processing and recycling of the material; accountability and transparency; reuse of electronic products; and design for the environment.
After completing the meetings throughout the province, the Stewardship plan will be submitted to the province’s Ministry of the Environment. That should take place by October.
The program will be operated by Encorp Pacific, a private, non-profit firm headquartered in British Columbia.
