Bayshore Recycling President Valerie Montecalvo accepts the company's Oak Leaf Award presented by The Nature Conservancy New Jersey Chapter. |
Bayshore Recycling of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, was awarded an Oak Leaf Award presented by The Nature Conservancy New Jersey Chapter (TNCNJC) for its exemplary impact on New Jersey conservation. Bayshore was one of five awards recipients, which were presented by TNCNJC Oct. 12, 2014.
For 20 years, Bayshore Recycling has provided the construction and transportation industries with recycling solutions. Located on a 55-acre campus, Bayshore champions the sustainable use of natural resources through its multifaceted recycling operations and solar energy system. In recognition for the recycling company’s devotion to preservation and keeping waste out of landfills, TNCNJC chose to honor Bayshore with the 2014 award.
TNCNJC holds its annual Oak Leaf Awards ceremony each fall, honoring businesses and individuals who have made a meaningful impact on the conservation of New Jersey with their efforts through advocacy, expertise and financial support. TNCNJC State Director Barbara Brummer presented the 2014 Oak Leaf Awards to five honorees: Bayshore Recycling; philanthropist Betty Wold Johnson; Assemblyman John McKeon and Sens. Bob Smith and Christopher “Kip” Bateman.
Bayshore President Valerie Montecalvo accepted the award and shared her passion for New Jersey’s environment. “I am so incredibly humbled to be honored with such a prestigious award next to the four other admirable honorees who support The Nature Conservancy’s mission of conserving the lands and water on which all life depends on,” Montecalvo said. “It is my dream and hope that we can all work together and one day accomplish the achievable goal of being a zero waste state.”
Montecalvo has been a member of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) for five years. TNC is a leading conservation organization and strives to protect ecologically important lands and water worldwide, the group says. Since its founding year in 1955, TNC says it has protected nearly 50,000 acres of land in the state of New Jersey alone.
Bayshore Recycling operates seven recycling businesses. Its services include recycling of concrete, asphalt, brick, block and glass cullet into aggregate materials; remediation of petroleum-contaminated soils; materials recovery of mixed construction and demolition debris into secondary products such as landscaping mulch and biofuel; full-service metal recycling; recycling of consumer electronics such as TVs and computers; and acceptance of dredge material via barge.
The company was featured as the cover story “Breaking the Mold” in the November/December 2013 issue of Construction & Demolition Recycling available at www.cdrecycler.com/cdr1113-bayshore-recycling-profile.aspx.
