Call2Recycle Inc., a battery stewardship organization based in Atlanta, has released a midyear report stating that 7.3 million pounds of single-use and rechargeable batteries have been recycled in North America, a 20 percent increase from the same period in 2015.
“Cultivating educated consumers and committed partners is vital to driving battery collection growth across North America,” says Carl Smith, CEO and president of Call2Recycle. “We’re rapidly expanding our reach with municipalities, retailers and other consumer-facing collection sites to make battery recycling more accessible and convenient for all.”
Call2Recycle provides drop-off locations for residents to recycle their batteries. U.S. retailers and municipalities collected almost 2.4 million pounds of batteries so far in 2016, while those in Canada have collected 3.2 million pounds.
