Battalion Response Consulting LLC, Highland, Illinois, is a newly launched company that specializes in offering consulting services tailored to the safe remediation and removal of damaged lithium batteries while adhering to stringent regulatory compliance standards. Its services include damage assessment, remediation strategies, safe packaging, U.S. Department of Transportation-regulated (US DOT 49 CFR 173.185) and function-specific training (US DOT 49 CFR 172.704).
The company offers on-site assessment and remediation planning for incidents involving fire-damaged lithium batteries and thermal runaway events as well as packaging solutions specified and designed for the safe handling, staging, packaging and transportation of damaged lithium batteries.
When regulatory conditions extend beyond the bounds of DOT 49 CFR 173.185 compliance, Battalion Response Consulting says it provides quick access to U.S. DOT Special Permits, facilitating safe, and compliant transport.
The company says its comprehensive training and certification course aligns with the function-specific requirements outlined in DOT 49 CFR 172.704(a)(1-4), equipping individuals with the skills necessary to ensure compliance and safety.
Steve Drueke, Battalion Response Consulting founder, says, “Extinguishing a burning lithium-ion battery is temporary. You’re only prolonging the inevitable.”
Drueke’s career has spanned nearly three decades and includes working as a software business analyst within the corporate real estate and facilities management domain. He began working in environmental hazardous waste management more than six years ago with Environmental Restoration LLC as field services manager, leveraging the expertise and insights gained from his previous role.
In 2020, Drueke says he played an instrumental role in remediating a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site involving more than 400,000 pounds of mixed chemistry and damaged lithium batteries, learning the 49 CFR regulations.
