Germany’s RMH Group adds Barry Hunter to team

Mulheim, Germany-based Rohstoff Handelsgesellschaft mbH (RHM) has secured a formal agreement with Barry Hunter to associate the name of Boca Raton, Florida-based Hunter Alloys LLC with its operations.

Under a recently signed agreement with RHM, Hunter has committed his company’s efforts to work with the group to help introduce RHM into the North American specialty steel scrap market and to oversee all related scrap activities within North America for the organization.

“Barry’s experience and long-established international reputation within the specialty steel scrap industry is well-known,” says Udo Meynerts, a founding partner RHM. “When timing presented us with a unique opportunity to approach him, as we were considering exploring the North American specialty steel market, we moved quickly. Fortunately for RHM, Barry was receptive to the idea, and we have been able to get it done.”

Hunter describes RHM as one of Germany’s largest independent scrap organizations, adding, “I have known the RHM group personally for many years. Their approach to me, and comparable scrap supply activities, presented a unique opportunity for me to remain involved in the industry and have the name of Hunter Alloys LLC associated with RHM’s international growth in specialty steels.”

Hunter adds, “My initial focus will remain on supplies of high-speed and tool steel scrap, but hopefully we will be able to expand to other secondary alloy commodities as international markets dictate.” He continues, “It’s the first time in over 50 years I’ll be working without a direct association with a domestic physical scrap operation or an official office site. I’m somewhere out there in a ‘cloud.’ Thankfully, I’m still standing upright and looking forward to this new and exciting opportunity.”

RHM, established in 1992, currently consists of five main divisions having a combined 2017 sales volume of 1.7 million metric tons. Hunter will conduct his business activities from his primary residence in Boca Raton, Florida.
