Following a decision by India to prevent the import of a French vessel into their country to be scrapped, the country of Bangladesh has announced that it is banning the import of a vessel from Norway into its country to be scrapped.
The decision follows complaints by environmentalists that the S.S. Norway would create environmental problems if it was dismantled in their country.
According to published reports, the Bangladesh Central Bank and Customers has been told not to issue import documentation to the vessel.
A Bangladeshi scrap dealer had purchased the vessel for around $12 million, but has yet to make the payment to take ownership of the vessel.
