Broomfield, Colorado-based Ball Corp. has agreed to acquire Tubex Industria E Comercio de Embalagens Ltda., an aluminum aerosol packaging firm with a plant near Sao Paolo.
The $80 million purchase also includes “associated contracts and other related assets,” according to Ball Corp.
The Sao Paolo area facility includes eight extruded aluminum aerosol can lines that produce personal care packaging for global and local customers. It employs approximately 300 people. Aluminum extrusion lines commonly use aluminum scrap as feedstock.
“As the demand for sustainable aluminum packaging continues to grow among customers and consumers worldwide, this investment allows us to broaden our geographic reach and serve this expanding market as one of the leading aluminum aerosol suppliers in Brazil,” says John A. Hayes, Ball Corp. chairman, president and CEO.
The plant will become part of Ball’s aluminum aerosol packaging division, to go along with Ball’s global aluminum aerosol and slug business in Europe, North America and Asia.
