Ball Corp. will close its 20-year-old aluminum beverage can plant in Moultrie, Ga., due to overcapacity in the beverage can industry.
The company said it will take a largely non-cash charge of about $15 million in the fourth quarter related to the closure. The plant has two production lines, and is capable of producing one billion cans a year. Customers who were previously served by Ball’s Georgia facility will be serviced by other Ball facilities in the area.
Closing the plant, which employs about 110 people, will be cash positive by about $4 million, the company said.
