Fat Boy Goes to Work in Massachusetts

Paper, cardboard and plastics recycler KLT Industries Inc., Ayer, Mass., has purchased a Fat Boy baler from Balemaster, Crown Point, Ind.

A news release from Balemaster says the Fat Boy allows for maximum bale density, creating cardboard bales that weigh 4,000 pounds with an output of 35 tons per hour.

“Now we can load export containers and have 25 percent unused space to ship less dense material as well,” says Charles Melanson, KLT’s vice president of operations.

The Fat Boy Baler being installed in KLT’s Ayer, Mass., facility will be the first one on the East Coast, according to Balemaster. The new baler will be used to bale paper, cardboard and plastic.

“This baler is the future of recycling and will push KLT Industries farther ahead of the market,” says Kyle Trayner, president of KLT Industries. “Our paper mill customers will be able to purchase more efficiently from KLT Industries, as domestic trailers can easily be filled to 52,000 pounds,” he adds.

KLT Industries collects and recycles more than of 150,000 tons of recyclables per year. The company, founded in 2002, has facilities in Connecticut and Rhode Island in addition to its Ayer, Mass., headquarters plant.

Balemaster says it has commissioned thousands of balers and shredders worldwide and offers a broad product line “capable of cost effectively meeting any automatic waste handling challenge.”
