The Baker Iron and Metal division of Cohen Recycling, Middletown, Ohio, has acquired Wise Recycling of Lexington, a metal recycling facility in Lexington, Kentucky. The purchase from Wise Recycling, based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, has been designed to increase Baker’s market share in Kentucky and makes it the only scrap metal processor operating within the city limits of Lexington, according to a Cohen Recycling news release.
According to Cohen Recycling, the former Wise Recycling plant in Lexington has been closed. Wise’s employees have been retained by Baker Iron and Metal and will work from the two existing Baker locations within Lexington.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to earn the business of Wise’s customer base, and promise to provide a rewarding experience to everyone that recycles with us,” says Ken Cohen, president of Cohen Recycling. “Our vision is to provide all businesses and individuals the opportunity to recycle safely, conveniently, and responsibly.”
Adds Andrew Logsdon, president of Wise Recycling, “We are confident that the integration of Wise’s and Baker’s teams will make Baker Iron and Metal an even stronger company going forward, carrying on the rich tradition of both Baker and Cohen for nearly a century.”
Cohen Recycling, founded in 1924, is family owned and operates 20 recycling facilities in three states, employing nearly 500 people. The company was the focus of a Recycling Today profile in 2003 that can be found here.
Wise Recycling is owned by Wise Metals Group, a family of industrial companies that includes a 100-acre aluminum production plant. The company was the focus of a 2001 Recycling Today profile story that can be found here.
