Axium Packaging, a New Albany, Ohio-based manufacturer of packaging for the global consumer products market, has started operations at a new plant in Brampton, Ontario, that will make plastic postconsumer resin (PCR) materials.
The 227,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is the third Ontario location for Axium, which began operating in the province in 2010. The company says the Brampton facility positions it to deliver "faster, more sustainable packaging solutions for its customers in one of North America’s fastest-growing markets.”
“This facility leverages the latest Axium equipment and processing technology and will be a platform to serve our customers across Canada with speed and agility,” Axium Packaging Founder and CEO Pushminder Judge says. “Canada is home for us, and Brampton is the ideal place to keep building on that vision while supporting our employees, their families and economic development throughout the region."
The new facility is hosts more than 45 packaging equipment lines for injection stretch blow molding, extrusion blow molding and injection molding as well as finishing and decoration.
The facility holds 10 plastic resin silos, three of which house PCR plastic. Axium says it uses PCR in as much as 30 percent of its packaging product line, and its silo technology allows it to transition to greater PCR storage to meet rising demand.
The firm’s Vertix Recycling business unit in Ohio focuses on postconsumer high-density polyethylene scrap reprocessing.
The newly installed capacity in Brampton gives customers the flexibility to meet sustainability targets while ensuring the speed, consistency and quality Axium is known for, according to the company.
“We are excited to deepen our investment in this supportive community and to seize the growth opportunities Canada’s leading consumer product companies offer Axium,” Axium Packaging President Paul Judge says. “By introducing innovative technology and advancing sustainable products and operations, we are proud to deliver best-in-class packaging solutions here and across North America.”
Axium says the plant improves tis ability to serve Canadian and North American consumer product companies in several categories, including personal and home cleaning supplies, food, pharmaceutical, health care and nutrition products.
“Brampton is proud to welcome Axium Packaging’s largest ever investment to our city," Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown says. "As Canada’s fastest-growing big city and a hub for innovation, advanced manufacturing and sustainability, Brampton is the ideal home for visionary companies like Axium."
