Hagerstown, Indiana-based Autocar, a manufacturer of severe-duty vocational trucks, has announced that its Autocar ACX severe-duty cabover vehicles will add six new advanced safety features:
- an eEectronic stability control (ESC) system that actively intervenes when the vehicle is understeering or oversteering to maintain vehicle stability;
- a rollover stability control (RSC) system that actively intervenes when the vehicle is at risk of a driver-induced rollover event;
- an advanced emergency braking system (AEBS) that allows the vehicle to detect an impending collision and actively engage the emergency brakes;
- a forward collision warning (FCW) that warns the driver visibly and audibly of an impending collision;
- a stationary lane departure warning (SLDW) that features a steady light located on the A-pillar and illuminates with an audible warning; and
- blind spot detection (BSD), which features a flashing light located on the A-pillar and warns drivers of vehicles in their blind spot.
These new advanced safety features are being added to a truck that the company claims already has:
- best in class visibility;
- up and down, in and out best ingress and egress for refuse;
- HVAC-focused insulation, testing, specific hot- and cold-zone options;
- reduced duplicity of monitoring and controls;
- tighter wheel cut and turning radius;
- optimized leg, head and torso room;
- weight distribution, suspension loading; and
- drivers safely enclosed in all steel cab, with automotive-style tooling with rugged fabrication.
According to Autocar, its route vehicle is designed to be one of the best when it comes to safe driving.
